On Oct. 10, Chief Dan Flynn and the Marietta Police Department named Officer Maria Funes as the Officer of the Quarter.
The Officer of the Quarter award is granted to any officer who, while performing his or her duties during the quarter in question, performs a notable act of service, excels in the performance of his or her duties or through superior performance brings honorable recognition to the department.
The police department's Awards and Commendations Committee met and voted on the Officer of the Quarter based on commendations submitted by supervisors, peers or civilian personnel.
