Marietta Runoff Election: What You Need To Know At The Polls

MARIETTA, GA — Marietta election runoffs are set for Tuesday, and two candidates will go head-to-head in one Marietta City Council race for voters' final decision in the Ward 5 seat, in which M. Carlyle Kent will face incumbent candidate Reggie Copeland.

But will voters return to the polls?

Early voting numbers say "no," continuing with the trend of waning participation in runoff elections. Voters did have less time to get to the polls early, turning in 183 early votes, according to Cobb County unofficial runoff tallies as of Nov. 24, which was the last day to vote early.

The general election earlier this month finished with 305 early and absentee votes for the Ward 5 race, totaling 820 votes overall including Election Day ballots out of 6,355 eligible voters — a 12.9 percent turnout on Nov. 2, unofficial results show.

Polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday in Marietta, and you are able to vote if you're in line when polls close at 7 p.m. Go to the Georgia Secretary of State's My Voter Page to find your voting precinct and see if you're eligible to vote in Ward 5.

If you voted in the Ward 5 city council race Nov. 2, you're eligible to vote in this race again. Only residents within that ward can vote in the runoff.
