- A woman who was allegedly suffering from a mental health crisis reportedly told a Marietta officer that she was going to kill him and then herself with the officer’s gun. Sgt. Reynolds said he was approached by a woman who told him, “I am going to take your gun, shoot you, then kill myself!” More than an hour later, the officer was able to diffuse the situation with the woman and get her mental health assistance. (WSB Atlanta)
- On Wednesday, the Marietta Board of Education approved the hiring of Jami Frost as Marietta City Schools' new deputy superintendent. Frost joins the school system from the Cobb County School District, where she served as assistant superintendent of southside elementary schools and oversaw daily operations for 22 schools. With more than 29 years of experience in the education field, Frost will be replacing Belinda Walters-Brazile, who is retiring after working for 32 years in education, including six of those years as Marietta's deputy superintendent. - State Attorney General Chris Carr spoke about his support for Senate Bill 44, which will impose new mandatory prison sentences for people who are convicted of participating in gang recruitment activities. Senate Bill 44 passed the Georgia Senate on Monday, Feb. 13, with a vote of 31-22. Under the new bill, judges will be required to impose prison sentences of at least five years on any defendant convicted of gang recruitment charges. Additionally, anyone convicted of the crime would not be able to have their sentence suspended or be eligible for probation. Carr reported that Cobb County police estimate that gangs are responsible for 70% of the county's stranger-on-stranger crime. (Morgan County Citizen)

The Marietta Police Department is re-starting its youth cadet program for youth aged 14 to 20 years old! The department will be hosting an informational session and program launch meeting on Thursday, Mar. 2 at 6 p.m. at the Marietta Police Department Headquarters to discuss the program and recruit applicants.
