Here are the top 3 stories today in Marietta:

  1. City leaders in Marietta have imposed a moratorium on the construction of new apartments for a period of six months. The decision was made in response to an influx of building applications that included a 322-unit building at the intersection of Delk and Powers Ferry roads, 300 apartments close to Powers Ferry and Roswell roads, and a 135-unit, seven-story complex a few blocks from the square on Polk. The ban comes as the city works to assess the impact of high-density housing on the community. These projects are unaffected by the moratorium because it was not in place when developers submitted their applications. According to Mayor Steve Tumlin, the moratorium will give them time to take a closer look at the present code and decide what is best for the community. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. Michael Yancy, 66, a former Cobb County police officer, is accused of child molestation in two counties. Yancy was taken into custody and charged in Paulding County with one count of child molestation and one count of enticing a child. He was booked into the Cobb County jail on two counts of child molestation for an incident last May. According to Cobb County police, Yancy worked as a K-9 handler and retired from their department several years ago. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. An 11-year-old male was charged with arson after a fire at the Green Acres Mobile Home Park off Cardell Road in south Cobb. Cobb fire officials found a building on fire and were able to extinguish it; according to the fire department, the fire was intentionally set. The fire broke out on Tuesday around 3:45 p.m. The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Cobb Fire at 770-499-3869. (MDJOnline.com)
