  1. A new initiative is offering prizes to Georgia residents who explore and clean up the state’s river systems from now through Sep. 6. The Paddle-A-Thon 2023 initiative includes prizes for categories like the most trash picked up, the most miles paddled, and the most money raised to protect the river systems. The grand prize winner will receive a $1,000 gift certificate to the Cedar Creek Outdoor Center, less than an hour outside of Marietta. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
  2. January Movie Monday is kicking off next week at Switzer Library! The first featured film will be The Mighty Ducks, starting at 11 a.m. on Jan. 9. The library notes this is a sensory-friendly program, with closed captions and dimmed lights; movement and talking is also welcome. (Switzer Library)
  3. A Georgia House study committee will investigate the waste produced by the legal manufacturing of cannabis products. In many cases, manufacturing only uses a small part of the cannabis plant. The series of meetings will also examine possible solutions. (Georgia Public Broadcasting)
