The next day, customers receive an email that looks authentic but it's really fraudulent, police said. The correspondence will ask you to fill out and long and drawn-out survey.
"On the final page of the survey you are asked personal information like date of birth and credit card information. You fill this out since you really just want to get the survey over at this point. You never get your certificate and you have just armed the crook to steal your identity," police said.
To quell such schemes, Marietta police are asking people not to fill out any surveys from "Food Delivery" and to not open the emails until you've checked with the company to determine their legitimacy.
Police said that if you have had one of these emails, please contact Cobb Senior Services (CSS) @ (770) 528-5355, Crime Stoppers @404-577-TIPS or the Federal Trade Commission @ 1-877-FTC-HELP.
