Sentencing for Teen; Lunch for Officials

1. After a couple of days of occasional, violent storms, we should see nothing but sunny skies today, albeit with plenty of humidity, the National Weather Service says. The high will be about 92; the overnight low will be around 64.

2. James Wendell Glover Jr., 16, will be sentenced today in Cobb County Superior Court for beating and robbing a World War II veteran last September. Glover, 15, at the time of the attack, was convicted Friday.

3. The Air Force had bad news last week for any civilians hoping to get work at . The Air Force instituted 90-day hiring freeze on civilian jobs, with the exception of Air Reserve technicians, and announced plans to cut back on temporary and contract workers. The freeze covers the Air Force Reserve Command, Dobbins said in a press release. It’s all part of an effort to address the fiscal realities facing the federal government.

4. The and will share a free lunch today with the Cobb legislative delegation in Room 506 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building near the state Capitol. The lunch meeting will cover Cobb projects in the and the proposed reapportionment for the districts for the two boards. A lobbyist from the law firm of Hall, Booth, Smith & Slover is paying for the lunch. The meeting runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

5. It will be a busy morning for the county commissioners, who have an agenda meeting at 100 Cherokee St. at 9 a.m. before heading to downtown Atlanta. The agenda meeting will prepare them for a work session at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and a regular meeting at 7 that night. In other government business, the Transit Advisory Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at 463 Commerce Park Dr., Suite 114, in Marietta.
