- Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin vetoed the mixed-use development proposed for Powers Ferry Kroger. The Marietta City Council voted 5-2 to approve the 322-unit on the site of a Kroger store that will be moving later this year. There was no opposition from the public, and the planning commission passed the proposal 7-0 and recommended that the project go through. Despite pleas from the developer and other community members, Tumlin, who has been outspoken about too many high-density apartments being proposed in the city, instantly vetoed the project. - Marietta recently broke ground on an affordable housing project for the city and school employees on Wednesday. The project at 37 Griggs St. has taken shape through a partnership between the city, its school district, and Habitat for Humanity. The funding for the project comes from the city's federal COVID-19 relief funds and will be the first development of its kind in the metro area. Habitat will build the first three houses starting in June of 2023; additional construction is planned for 2024. (Yahoo News)
- Cobb school board candidate John Cristadoro spoke recently about his reasons for running for a seat on the Cobb Board of Education. Cristadoro said he tried several jobs, such as a veterinarian technician, a clerk in a law firm, a personal trainer, and currently a media salesman, before settling into his business career. Christadoro recognizes that with all his entrepreneurial work and two children in the school system, his plate is quite full, but what pushed his decision to run has been the numerous people over the past few months recommending him to run. As part of his campaign's purpose, the candidate said he wants to “make sure our classrooms remain excellent.” (East Cobb News)
