Richard Lindsay Butterfield is receiving a military funeral through a homeless veterans burial program.

MARIETTA, GA -- An unclaimed veteran will be laid to rest with full military honors at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. The burial is sponsored by Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home and the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program. The veteran, Richard Lindsay Butterfield, served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960-1968.

"The Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program is a cooperative effort designed to ensure that veterans who are unclaimed after death receive the honors in death that their service in life merited," said Gregory Hall of Dignity Memorial. "We're honored to assist in giving Mr. Butterfield the dignified military services he deserves.”

Local Patriot Guard Riders will stand in a flag line and serve as the veteran’s family in service. The public and members of the media are invited to attend the burial in support of Lt. Butterfield’s service to the nation.
