Veterans Day 2015 in Marietta
Events honoring veterans will include a parade and a commemoration speech in Marietta Square.

Marietta residents are invited to come to Marietta Square Wednesday morning to honor the legacy left by the nation’s veterans during the city’s annual celebration of Veterans Day.
A Veterans Day parade will embark from the Roswell Street Baptist Church parking lot at 11 a.m. Wednesday and will march along Roswell Street towards Marietta Square. 30 different organizations are expected to participate in the parade, including drill teams, marching bands, veterans organizations, and owners of military vehicles.
Following the parade, a commemoration event will be held in Marietta Square which will feature a keynote address from Maj. Gen. Stayce Harris, who commands the 22nd Air Force based out of Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta. The theme of Harris’ address will be “Never Forget.”

Veterans Day was originally named Armistice Day and commemorated the armistice which ended World War I at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1918. It was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor the sacrifices made by veterans in conflicts such as World War II and the Korean War.
