Wanted Man Hit Officer, Drove Off With Someone Else's Baby In Backseat Before Arrest
Marietta police arrested a Cobb County man after he hit an officer with a car and led police in a chase down Interstate 75 on Thursday.
MARIETTA, GA — A Mableton man faces numerous aggravated assault and traffic-related charges after police say he hit an officer with a car, fled from the cops with someone else's baby in the backseat and led police on a chase down Interstate 75.
Marietta police got a notification that someone wanted on an aggravated assault/strangulation charge was in the area of Delk Road and I-75.
Police approached the suspect car, parked at the Motel 6 on Delk Road, on foot when they saw the suspect — later identified as Marquez Wright, 27 — in the front passenger seat.

Wright refused the verbal commands from officers, slid over into the driver's seat and drove off, hitting one of the officers with the car, police said. Police then starting chasing after him on I-75 south.
While police were following Wright, dispatchers told them a woman called and stated her two-month-old baby was still inside the car. Police said the chase ended moments later when Wright stopped abruptly and started running away.

Construction workers in the area flagged down police and pointed them in Wright's direction, where he was taken into custody. A few blocks before the end of the police pursuit, an officer hit a landscaper while trying to navigate a sharp turn, police said.
The landscaper sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Atlanta Medical Center. The two-month-old child was not injured, but was taken to Scottish Rite for observation.
The officer hit by Wright sustained minor injuries and did not need to be taken to the hospital.
Wright was not visibly injured, but asked to be taken to Grady Medical Center. Once medically cleared, Wright will be booked into the Cobb County jail facing numerous traffic charges, aggravated assault on an officer and the outstanding warrant for aggravated assault/strangulation.
