What's Closed In Cobb County: Hurricane Irma

As the remnants of Hurricane Irma approach metro Atlanta, here is what is closed in metro Atlanta.

MARIETTA, GA -- As the effects of Hurricane Irma push into metro Atlanta Monday, a number of municipalities have closed down. The city of Marietta offices and recreation centers will be closed on Monday, Sept. 11.

Marietta schools and utilities will also be closed Monday, the city said. Gov. Nathan Deal said Sunday that Georgians should stay off the roads if at all possible and "shelter in place" as the storm ran its course.

In Marietta, sanitation services will also cease on Monday. "The landfills that take our trash have notified us they will be canceled tomorrow so our crews will have no where to take the trash. We kindly ask that if you are able, please secure your trash so that it does not spread in the potential high winds. Also this means our trash service will now operate on a holiday schedule and yard waste service will be suspended for the week," the city said on Facebook.

In Kennesaw, the police department warn d motorists not to drive through high waters if the area flooded.

"Please don't attempt to drive through flood waters, even if you travel the road daily. You never know if it has washed away below the water level," Kennesaw PD said in Facebook.

In Cobb, the 9 a.m. Agenda Work Session and 1:30 p.m. BOC Work Session are canceled Monday. Also Xpress bus services are cancelled while and several CobbLinc routes have been modified. Riders are encouraged to go to CobbLinc.com for the latest.

All Cobb senior centers and services, including Meals on Wheels will be suspended Monday, as will all operations at libraries and parks.

Irma, weakening but still angry, slashed Miami Sunday morning at landfall before bearing down on Naples and Fort Myers. Florida's Gulf Coast side was inundated with perilously high storm surges.

Tropical storm-force winds are expected to thrash Georgia and parts of metro Atlanta for much of Monday.
