Woman Died In Marietta Hotel From 'Edged Weapon': Cobb Police

Cobb police said they are investigating the incident, which took place at InTown Suites Extended Stay Hotel, as a homicide.

MARIETTA, GA — Cobb County Police Department officers said they are investigating a homicide after they discovered a woman dead at a hotel near Town Center mall.

Police said officers responded to a "person down" call at InTown Suites Extended Stay Hotel, located on Barrett Creek Parkway, around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Officers found 31-year-old Jalin Belton unresponsive, and first responders confirmed she died on the scene.

Preliminary information shows she died from injuries from "an edged weapon," Cobb police spokeperson Shenise Barner said. Belton's next of kin have been notified of her death.

Initial information indicated that two small children were with Belton in the room at some time in the past, but police said the children were not there when she died. They were found safe with relatives outside Georgia.
