Fan's Death at Turner Field Ruled an Accident

The 60-year-old man's death was caused by blunt force injuries of the head and torso, the medical examiner's office said Monday.

The death of an Atlanta Braves fan who fell out of the upper deck of Turner Field on Saturday night has been ruled an accident, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office announced Monday.

“The cause of death of Gregory Murrey, who fell at Turner Field on August 29, 2015, has been attributed to Blunt Force Injuries of the Head and Torso and the manner of death is accident,” said the office in a statement. “Toxicology results are pending and will not be available for several weeks. There was no underlying medical condition found that contributed to death. No further information is available at this time.”

Murrey, 60, was in the upper deck watching the Braves take on the Yankees when he somehow lost his balance and fell 50 feet to the lower seating bowl.

“The Atlanta Braves are deeply saddened by the loss of Greg Murrey at last night’s game,” the team said in a statement on Sunday. “Greg was a valued and longtime season ticket holder and an incredibly passionate Braves fan. This tragic loss is felt throughout Braves Country, and the thoughts and prayers of the entire Braves organization continue to go out to his family and friends.”

“Sincere thoughts and prayers out to the family of the man who fell during tonight’s game. Absolutely tragic to hear about,” Braves Pitcher Matt Wisler wrote on Twitter.
