UPDATE: Police Identify Carjacking, Midtown Chase Suspect

Atlanta police and Georgia state troopers joined forces to pursue the suspect.

Atlanta police and the Georgia State Patrol have arrested a man they believe carjacked a woman before leading them on a vehicle pursuit through Midtown on Friday morning.

Police were alerted to a carjacking in progress at West Paces Ferry and Peachtree Roads at 10:48 a.m. Friday, police spokesman Greg Lyon told Patch. The suspect allegedly pulled a box cutter on his victim, according to Lyon. Police started to pursue the stolen car and called the Georgia State Patrol for backup.

The chase made its way through Midtown on Peachtree Street before the suspect got on I-75 southbound, WSB-TV said. Near Cleveland Avenue, a state trooper initiated a PIT Maneuver on the carjacked vehicle, causing it to spin out and flip over. Nobody was injured as a result of the crash, and no city vehicles were damaged in the pursuit, Lyon said.
