Trey Clegg Singers Present "Festival Sounds of the Season"
Exciting Holiday Concert Offers Diverse Holiday Music!
Atlanta’s premiere multicultural chorus –the Trey Clegg Singers (TCS) – invites area music patrons as well as Christmas carol lovers to attend its popular holiday concert, “Festival Sounds of the Season,” on Sunday, December 17, at 6 p.m., the Church at Wieuca, 3626 Peachtree Road.
Now in its 8th season, TCS will present an exciting and wide-ranging choral program that conveys early traditional Christmas music, including Gregorian chants and Negro spirituals; and, at the same time, introduces more contemporary and international music, including a Spanish carol and Jazz compositions.
TCS will proudly perform the world premiere of a new work by one of its own members-- composer Douglas Hooker-- stated founder/music director Trey Clegg. Entitled “Fear Not,” this modern composition depicts the angels who appeared to the shepherds, announcing Christ’s birth. The composition has multiple layers, including soprano soloist, double choir, piano, string bass and percussion.

“The Trey Clegg Singers are very honored to premiere another of Doug Hooker’s works; this will be our third world premiere of one of his compositions,” said Mr. Clegg. “I am also delighted to note that Mr. Hooker is a long-time Atlanta leader who is a true Renaissance man.”
The holiday concert also will present a new composition-“Ambe” (Welcome) -by Native American composer Alfred Balfour, who is of Cree descent. (This tribe primarily originated in Manitoba, Canada and Minnesota.) TCS’ performance of this piece in the concert reflects its receipt of a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grant to further the chorus’ collaborative work with Native American music artists.

“The broad diversity of our Christmas concert repertoire well captures the origins and nature of TCS,” says Mr. Clegg. “When I started the chorus in 2016, I envisioned bringing together semi-professional singers of diverse ages, genders, races and cultures. The chorus’ make-up as well as our planned Christmas concert fulfill TCS’ mission: To use music as a healing force for reconciliation, equality, and justice!"
TCS’ Festival Sounds of the Seasons concert moves the audience through eight different seasons and related moods, reflecting that first Christmas: waiting for Jesus’ birth, His actual arrival and the subsequent celebration by His followers.
These varied concert episodes will be well performed by prominent Atlanta soprano Maria Clark; and veteran soloists Persis Bristol, Crystal Gentile-Porter and Justin Cornelius from TCS’ 50-member chorus. TCS also will be accompanied by a 30-member ensemble from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO).
