Library Rezoning, Senior Health Screenings and More

Five things to know today in the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area.

What's new in the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area? Here are five things to know as you start your day.

Briarcliff Library meeting. There will be a follow-up meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the proposed rezoning of the former Briarcliff Library, 2775 Briarcliff Road. The Library wants to sell the property and seeks to rezone it from RM-150 to O-I (Office & Institutional).

The Thursday meeting follows up on a previous community meeting as part of the overall rezoning process. DeKalb County Public Library Director Alison Weissinger said nearby residents were invited to tonight's meeting after concerns over the zoning had been raised in the last meeting.

Weissinger said that a proposal to relocate the Dresden Drive county tag office to the Briarcliff location was "not an option" and that it was simply "an idea at one point." The rezoning is necessary for the Library to sell the property.

Free screenings for seniors: Senior Connections and the Atlanta Regional Commission are offering free health screenings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Mason Mill Senior Center, 1430-B McConnell Dr.

From the Boards: DeKalb Medical’s Adult Auxiliary Program celebrated its 40th anniversary last week at the Annual Volunteer Banquet, which recognizes and thanks volunteers for their service to the health care organization.

From the Blogs: The Better Business Bureau Tips blog warns of scammers invoicing companies for online ads they never placed and using the Yellow Pages name to lend them credibility.

Chilly start to day: After the morning low dips into the 30s, Thursday's high will be 62, mostly sunny and definitely less breezy than Wednesday, according to Weather.com.
