Police: No Known Connection in Fake Cops Robberies

Two men posing as police robbed two North Druid Hills students last week. It happened again hours later to two Georgia Tech students.

We who were robbed in their apartment after two men posing as police forced their way in, claiming they were on a drug bust.

The next morning, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that something strikingly similar occurred only a few hours later to two Georgia Tech students in the city. From their story:

A man pretending to be a police officer tried to force his way into a Georgia Tech student’s home just north of campus early Wednesday, Atlanta police said.

Atlanta police Sgt. Curtis Davenport told the AJC that the student, whose name has not been released, told officers that a male wearing a black shirt with “police” across the front came to the door of her home on Hampton Street about 2 a.m.

“The suspect said, ‘Police, let me in,'" Davenport said.

The suspect descriptions don't really match, but we called up DeKalb County police to see if the two incidents were linked (to their knowledge).

As it stands, no they aren't officially, said Mekka Parish, county police spokeswoman. From her statement to North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch:

In reference to the case you were asking about being connected to Georgia tech per the detective, at  this point in the investigation there is no indication the two incidents are connected, but they cannot rule it out.

So, there you have it to those wondering what was going on there. Nothing yet, it seems. Maybe they're connected, maybe this is a new, slightly clever trend in Atlanta area armed robbery. Time will tell.
