Ryan's Buffet Still Open Despite Nationwide Closures

In Georgia, the national buffet restaurant chain shut down locations in Canton, Cartersville and Calhoun. But the Buford Highway restaurant remains open.

Good news for smorgasbord fans in the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area.

Your buffet restaurant on Buford Highway is here to stay.

The Minnesota-based chain's parent company, Buffets Inc., announced last week it was closing 81 locations across several of its restaurant brands, including Ryan's. That closure list included locations in , Cartersville and Calhoun.

Why all the closures? Buffets Inc. is struggling big time. The company recently declared bankruptcy for the second time in four years and has been struggling under the weight of $245 million in debt, according to a Reuters report. The company operates 494 restaurants across several brands, including Ryan's, HomeTown Buffet and Fire Mountain

The company hopes to emerge from bankruptcy within six months, the report said.

But business is as usual at the Ryan's on Buford Highway, said an employee who answered the phone this morning.

"We're making money," he said.
