Silverbacks Sign Lawrenceville Midfielder Borfor Carr

The Atlanta Silverbacks have signed attacking midfielder Borfor Carr, the club announced Friday, pending USSF approval.

Carr, 24, comes to the Silverbacks after impressing on an extended trial during the team’s preseason training camp. The 5-foot-9 midfielder saw action in all of the Silverbacks' preseason games and contributed a goal in the team's win over Clayton State University.

Born in Zwedru, Liberia, Carr and his family left the country due to civil unrest when he was 3 years old, relocating to the Ivory Coast. When he was 14, he moved to Lawrenceville with his family, where he would eventually star at the club level with Gwinnett Soccer Association and at the high school level at Central Gwinnett.

Following a successful high school career in Georgia, Carr had the opportunity to sign a contract with Romanian club CS Concordia Chiajna in early 2009. The Liberian midfielder, who scored on his first touch in his first game for Concordia, spent two and a half years with the Romanian club before returning home to the Atlanta area in 2011.

Carr made four appearances for the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves last season before going on trial with the professional team in the 2012 preseason. Silverbacks Head Coach Alex Pineda Chacón believes his new attacking midfielder can provide the team with an added dimension.

"Borfor brings versatility and pace to the team, which are two great qualities to have," Chacón said. "He can play different positions and has the ability to blow past defenders with his remarkable speed, so we're happy to add him into our squad after seeing him play very well this preseason."

Carr is currently in North Carolina with the team ahead of their weekend matchup with the Carolina RailHawks and could be available to play in the game.
