GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Two mid-day fatal shootings on Sunday set a dour tone amid Valentine’s Day celebrations.

Both incidents, though more than 25 miles apart, were reported to Gwinnett County Police within a roughly two-hour time frame.

In the first report, police were called to the entrance to the apartment complex at 1700 Hunters Ridge Lane in Peachtree Corners. Officers dispatched around 11:30 a.m., arrived to find a man laying on the ground at the complex entrance suffering from “at least one” gunshot wound, according to a police statement.

Around 1:30 p.m., police responded to a “person shot” report on Uniwattee Lane near Mountain Ash Court in unincorporated Dacula. There they found a woman in her 20s suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

“She was shot outside and found outside the home,” police spokeswoman Sgt. Michele Pihera said in an email, referring to reports that investigators located shell casings on the side of the road.

It was unclear if the woman lived at the home and police are investigating the incident as a “domestic-related homicide,” according to a police statement.

Investigators are following up on several possible leads, the statement said.

Neither victim in the two shootings was identified by police late Sunday, and both investigations are ongoing.

Police are asking anyone with information into either incident to contact Gwinnett County Police detectives at 770-513-5300.
