3 Men Charged With Jan. 31 Apartment Murder In Gwinnett County

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA—Three three men have been charged in connection with a Jan. 31 homicide on Ashley Lakes Drive in Peachtree Corners, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department. Arrested are two brothers from Duluth, Cobe Mayart, 18, and Corey Mayart, 20. Gabriel Morales, 19, of Lawrenceville is also behind behind bars for his part in the crime, police say.

All three men are charged with aggravated assault, murder and home invasion in the 1st degree, according to police.

On Jan. 31, police say they responded to a homicide that occurred on Ashley Lakes Drive in Peachtree Corners just after 12 p.m. Once on scene, they say they located a deceased man in the 700 building of the apartment complex. The victim was later identified as 22-year-old Malik Werts of Peachtree Corners.

Detectives say they believe that the victim’s apartment was specifically targeted by the three suspects.

"Through their investigation, those detectives determined that this homicide was motivated by drug activity and robbery," police said in a news release.
