As part of a national campaign, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense, Atlanta have sent handcrafted Father’s Day gifts and cards to Georgia’s 14 representatives in Congress and the state’s two US senators.
Handmade neckties were created from paper that read, “I have Gun Sense.” An accompanying card wishes the elected official a Happy Father’s Day and either thanks them for their gun sense or asks them to support gun sense by helping to create a safer nation for American families and communities.
The Georgia congressmen who were sent ties include Jack Kingston district (1), Sanford Bishop, Jr. (2), Lynn Westmorland (3), Hank Johnson (4), John Lewis (5), Tom Price (6), Rob Woodall (7), Austin Scott (8), Doug Collins (9), Paul Brown Jr. (10), Phil Gingrey (11), John Barrow (12), David Scott (13) and Tom Graves (14). Senator Saxby Chambliss and Senator Johnny Isakson were also sent Father’s Day cards and gifts from the group.

“Most of Georgia’s representatives in Washington are dads too. We want to remind them that the safety of all our children should be their primary concern when reviewing and voting on gun legislation,” said co-chapter head for Moms Demand Action Atlanta, Piyali Cole.
Members will also be photographing their husbands, fathers, and brothers wearing these neckties that will then be shared via multiple Facebook chapter pages and other social media outlets.

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a mom-founded organization, however they are not just moms. The organization’s aim this Father’s Day is to increase membership from all citizens, including dads and elected officials, who share a common aim for gun sense in America, such as Senators Blumenthal and Murphy of Connecticut as well as Representatives Thompson (CA) and King (NY).
In addition, the group will work on videos of victims' fathers about what Father's Day means to them. These videos will be promoted prior to Father's Day.
Moms Demand Action has common-sense gun legislation solutions that would:
1) require background checks for all gun and ammunition purchases,
2) ban assault weapons and ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds,
3) track the sale of large quantities of ammunition, and ban online sales,
4) establish product safety oversight of guns and ammunition, and require child-safe gun technology,
5) support policies at companies and public institutions that promote gun safety, and
6) counter the gun industry’s efforts to weaken gun laws at the state level.
