Bahá’ís Celebrate Bicentenary of an Important Holy Day

Local Bahá'ís mark the 200th Anniversary of the Birth of the Báb, the Prophet and Herald of Bahá'u'lláh, the Founder of the Bahá'í Faith

Bahá’ís of Peachtree Corners are preparing to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Báb, Herald of the Bahá’í Faith, on October 29, 2019.

Plans include a special event on Monday, October 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pinckneyville Community Center. The celebration will include a brief program to commemorate the Holy Day, followed by dinner and fellowship. Additionally, members of the local Baha’i community are planning to suspend work to participate in a service project that will benefit the community at large.

The Báb (1819-1850) is the forerunner and herald of the Baha’i Faith, and His dramatic ministry in the mid-1800s paved the way for the appearance of Bahá’u’lláh (1817-1892), the founder of the Faith. From sunset October 28th through 30th, Baha’is, together with their neighbors, families, and friends, will commemorate the births of these Twin Luminaries.

“Now more than ever we need positive models of social change that bring people together rather than divide them,” said Andrea Perkins. “The Báb paved the way for Bahá’u’lláh, in much the same way John the Baptist did for Jesus Christ. Bahá’u’lláh’s teachings, centered around the recognition of the oneness of humanity, offer a compelling and hopeful vision of a future world united in justice, peace, and prosperity. This is what we’ll be celebrating during this special time of the year.”

The 2019 Bicentenary is not a single event, but rather, a highlight in an ongoing series of community-building activities, generated at the grassroots level all around the world with activities that reinforce Bahá’u’lláh’s vision of the oneness of humanity and empowers people of every background to participate.

To nurture the spiritual growth of the community, Bahá’ís host regular devotional gatherings where they are joined by followers of other faiths to say prayers from many religious traditions. They also conduct study circles where participants explore spiritual insights and practice skills to enable them to contribute to the betterment of society, starting with their own neighborhood.
