PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA – Citizens and business owners confirmed their support for the Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD) in a big way recently by showing up in large numbers one recent morning for a Coffee-with-a-Cop event held at a local restaurant.

Nearly 100 attended the event held at Atlanta Bread Company on Friday, August 19, 2016 including 20-25 police officers, precinct commanders and the Assistant Chief Tom Doran, who stopped in during the 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. event.

Coffee-with-a-Cop is an outreach program designed to help break down barriers and give residents a chance to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know the officers who patrol and protect their community.

“It was a great opportunity to show the GCPD police officers just how important they are to Peachtree Corners,” said Mayor Mike Mason. “Our city enjoys a low crime rate thanks to their efforts. I often hear from our residents on how pleased they are to have the GCPD patrolling their neighborhoods.”

To show community support, the United Peachtree Corners Civic Association (UPCCA) presented a four-minute video that included a number of testimonials from Peachtree Corners residents who were happy to express their appreciation for the GCPD.

“The video was awesome,” said GCPD Assistant Chief Tom Doran. “We host these events for the community, but our officers enjoy them just as much. We are very appreciative of the community’s support.”

Doran said that the GCPD’s five precincts schedule at least two Coffee-with-a-Cop gatherings per year. He said that since the Dallas and Baton Rouge shootings, the GCPD has received an outpouring of support from communities throughout Gwinnett.

In Peachtree Corners the challenge is finding a place that’s big enough noted Doran. “We thank Atlanta Bread for allowing us to use their restaurant. It was a perfect location.”
