Flood Warning Issued for Peachtree Corners

The National Weather Service has issued a warning for the Chattahoochee River which includes Medlock Bridge Road National Park and Jones Bridge Park in Peachtree Corners.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning Sunday morning for the Chattachoochee River for Gwinnett and Fulton including Peachtree Corners.

The weather service reports that recent heavy rainfall has caused "significant runoff into streams and rivers which will cause flooding in some areas."

The NWS advises that "all persons with interests along the river should monitor the latest forecasts, and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect life and property."

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE CITY HAS ISSUED A * FLOOD WARNING FOR THE CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER NEAR NORCROSS. * FROM THIS MORNING UNTIL THIS EVENING. * AT 11 AM SUNDAY THE STAGE WAS 12.2 FEET...AND RISING. * MINOR FLOODING WILL CONTINUE. * FLOOD STAGE IS 12 FEET. * THE RIVER WILL CONTINUE RISING TO NEAR 13.3 FEET BY THIS AFTERNOON. THE RIVER WILL FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE LATE THIS AFTERNOON. * AT 12 FEET...FLOOD STAGE IS REACHED AND MINOR FLOODING BEGINS. FLOOD WATERS WILL BEGIN TO COVER CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER NATIONAL RECREATION AREA PARKING LOT AT MEDLOCK BRIDGE PARK. IN ADDITION... BOTTOMLAND FLOODING INCREASES IN THE FLOOD PLAIN.

Sunday's forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms to continue for much of today. Isolated severe storms, damaging wind gusts, and hail is possible along with lightning.

The NWS has issued a flood watch for much of north and central Georgia through this evening. Due to the heavy rains, overnight creeks and rivers have rapidly risen across the region with a few creeks and streams that is expected to approach or reach flood stage.
