Movie Studio Proposed for I-85 and Jimmy Carter Boulevard Site

The location is the same site that was tied to a proposed gambling complex. The property is located adjacent to Peachtree Corners city limits.

Editor's note: Peachtree Corners could be a big benefactor if the proposed project if approved and may be an easier sell than the gambling casino pitched earlier.

The Norcross area could be the new home of the largest movie studio in the Southeast, according to media reports.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the studio is proposed to be built at the OFS site near I-85 and Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

Jacoby Development, which is also the developer behind Midtown's Atlantic Station, told the AJC that it plans to build a studio complex with at least 12 soundstages, totaling 400,000 square feet.

The redevelopment also will include an "arts and media school surrounded by a mix of retail, office space and hotels on the site," according to the website.

While financing has not been finalized, Jacoby has the site under contract, and a transaction is expected to close before next year, the AJC continues. It will not affect OFS's production facilities, which will still be there.

The OFS location is also where the $1 billion gambling complex had been proposed a year before. Issues arose since the complex revolved around video lottery terminals, and the Georgia Lottery Board decided not to consider voting on approving the machines for use at the location. Last December, O'Leary said his contract to use the OFS site was no longer active.
