Washington Post Ranks Nation's High Schools

Two high schools serve the Peachtree Corners community, Duluth and Norcross are included in the report.

Editor's note: The article has been revised to include Duluth High School. Also added is the racial mix for both schools.

In its annual rankings of America's most challenging high schools, the Washington Post has Norcross High School listed as No. 124 and Duluth High School as 421.

According to the report, rankings are based on an index formula that's a ratio: the number of Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given each year is divided by the number of seniors who graduated that year.

The Post also shows percentages of students from each school who qualify for lunch subsidies.

Duluth High offers 20 AP courses, no IP courses with 12 varsity sports; 53 percent of its students qualify for subsidised lunches.

Racial mix of student body:

  • 28% African American
  • 26% Hispanic
  • 22% Caucasian
  • 20% Asian
  • 4% Multi-ethnic

Norcross High is one of the few schools in the area to have an IB program. It has 17 IB courses and 23 AP courses, with 17 varsity sports; 56 percent of its students qualify for subsidized lunches.
