Police Search For Hit-And-Run Driver, Woman Has Severe Injuries

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA -- A Smyrna woman is being treated for injuries in a pedestrian hit-and-run that occurred late last night.

Shortly before midnight on Monday, May 27, officers assigned to the West Precinct were dispatched to a pedestrian accident on Holcomb Bridge Road near Crooked Creek Road in Peachtree Corners. Once the officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from visible injuries. The woman, Maliqua Johnson, 28, of Smyrna, was transported to a local hospital.

The investigators assigned to the Accident Investigation Unit were called to the scene. Following their preliminary investigation, they learned that Johnson was crossing the roadway outside of the crosswalk on Holcomb Bridge Road. A vehicle was traveling southbound on Holcomb Bridge Road approaching Crooked Creek Road.

The driver of the vehicle struck Johnson and left the scene without rendering aid or calling 911.

Based on the debris left in the roadway, investigators believe that the vehicle that struck Johnson is a newer-model (possibly 2016) red Hyundai passenger car (possibly a Sonata) with damage to the front bumper, hood, windshield, and right side mirror.

The pedestrian was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The investigator assigned to this case is seeking tips to identify the driver of the vehicle.
