What's Going On Around Town This Week

The Peachtree Corners Patch calendar is full of news about events coming up in the weeks ahead. Here's a look at five of this week's community events.

1. Monday, 7:30 p.m.  Common Core & SPLOST Informational Meeting Sponsored by UPCCA
The United Peachtree Corners Civic Association (UPCCA) is hosting an informative session on Common Core Standards with Alvin Wilbanks, CEO and Superintendent for Gwinnett County Public Schools. and Gwinnett County Board Chairman Charlotte Nash will provide information on the proposed three-year SPLOST. Location: Peachtree Corners Baptist Church.

2. Wednesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. Babies, Kids and Teens PLUS FURNITURE and HOME Consignment Sale
The semi-annual sale features clothing, shoes, toys, strollers, plus general furniture and home decor items. A portion of the proceeds are donated to several non-profits including the Norcross Co-op. Location: Christ the King Lutheran Church.

3. Christmas Parade Volunteer Meeting Thursday, Sept. 16 at 10:00 a.m. Calling for Volunteers for the Christmas Parade
Organizers of the first "Christmas in the Corners" Parade are looking for volunteers to help with planning for the Christmas Parade. A Parade committee chairperson as well as committee members for both Parade and Sponsorship committees are needed. High school students who would like to earn volunteer hours are invited. Please call 678-429-2550 if you are interested.

4. Thursday, Sept. 19, 12 p.m. Public Speaking at Toastmasters
Learn the art of public speaking at Technology Park Toastmasters. The group meets every Thursday from noon to one in the TransCore bldg located at
192 Technology Pkwy, Suite 500 Peachtree Corners, GA  30092. Just show up for the fun and learning. Click here for more details.

5. Friday, Sept. 27, 7:30 p.m. Norcross High School Blue Devils play at home this week agains the Mill Creek High School Hawks in a Reg-7 - AAAAA matchup Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
