  1. Changes are being made after the fatal accident on April 18 when a woman fell 20 feet off of an unauthorized trail at the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area in Roswell. The particular trail is a terrain where the "topography is so steep you’re essentially walking along a cliff,” said Beth Wheeler, the recreation area's chief of Planning, Resources and Education. Debris has been placed around the unsafe area to hide the unauthorized trail and rangers have placed signage at the entrance of the trail to prevent hikers from taking that route. Park officials are stressing the importance of staying on designated trails and are educating park visitors on the dangers of forging their own paths on unauthorized trails. (Appen Media)
  2. The adoption of the new Fiscal Year 2024 budget will begin on July 1. The City of Roswell said that some of the advantages of the new budget are a savings of almost $3 million, an average of a three percent merit-based pay increase for city employees, and a General Fund Reserve of $23.4 million. Mayor Kurt Wilson said that "the FY2024 budget will advance the city forward and support excellence in every facet of service delivery and municipal governance.” The city incorporated a Zero-Based Budgeting (ZBB) process when developing the 2024 budget. 3. Music on the Hill kicked off on Friday, June 9, at Roswell City Hall. This concert series celebrates music throughout the decades. Residents gathered on the lawn and enjoyed the sounds of the '80s cover band, Guardians of the Jukebox. Chuck Martin and the Line Up will be the next band to grace the hill on July 14, with their covers of country music songs. In August, the funk of the '70s will be showcased by musician BJ Wilbanks. The Geek Squad will play their Motown, Pop, jazz, funk, and hip-hop tunes in September. These concerts will take place the second Friday of the month until September. (Appen Media)
