  1. RO Hospitality held a back-to-school fundraiser yesterday evening that benefitted Roswell’s Children’s Development Academy (CDA). The group owns and operates Table & Main, Osteria Mattone, and Casa Robles in the downtown area. The fundraiser will also continue this evening during their dinner services, in which children under 10 will eat free. A portion of the proceeds from these establishments will be allocated used to buy school supplies for the CDA. The CDA is a nonprofit education center that offers affordable learning programs to children from low-income families. Each restaurant's dinner service will begin at 5 p.m. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. Liquor store owners in Roswell and in several nearby cities have reported incidents of shoplifting from the same two women. The incidents have occurred over the past two weeks in Roswell, Woodstock, Canton, and in Columbus; high-end liquor was stolen in each case. Security footage from the store's cameras seem to show two women working cohesively to pull off the thefts. The owner of Roswell Beverage said he was warned about this duo beforehand and was able to disrupt their plans. The women have yet to be caught, however, Woodstock Police is working with the other police departments to find the suspects. (Newsbreak)
  3. On Aug. 2, the ROTC Scholarship Certificate Presentation was held by the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame (GMVHOF) at Newtown Park in John's Creek. The ceremony took place at the park's Veterans Memorial Walk, and almost 40 people attended the event. Scholarships were also given to two students who were members of the JROTC Program and recent graduates at The King’s Academy. Joshua Acklen of Roswell was awarded a $4,000 scholarship. Acklen will begin his freshmen year and ROTC cadets at the University of North Georgia this fall. This scholarship given by the GMVHOF was created by its founder, Col. Paul Longgrear and is meant to “inspire and prepare future leaders for America." Acklen's scholarship is in honor and memory of late U.S. Navy veteran, “Submarine” Mike Kotler of Alpharetta.
