🌱 Cheer Competition At RHS + City Reports Forfeiture Fund Expenses

Here are the top stories today in Roswell:

1. Roswell High School will be hosting a Competition Cheer Showcase on Friday, Sept. 15. This athletic event will feature the Mini Hornets, Junior Hornets, the RHS JV Competition and the RHS Varsity Competition teams. This exhibition will be the first time this season that each team will premiere their routines in front of audience. This cheerleading extravaganza is free and will be open to the entire community. 2. Roswell's public safety department is one of those across the metro area that receives funding each year from local governments. These funds are used for operational costs; some of these expenses are covered through local asset forfeitures. A state law mandates that public safety departments report their annual asset forfeiture funds to the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government. The cities of Roswell, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, and Forsyth County have reported their lists of expenses in the 2022 fiscal year that were covered by forfeited assets to the institute. The combined expenses that were covered by forfeited assets for all of these cities totaled $398,675. (Appen Media)
3. For the 38th year in a row, Halloween Hikes will return to the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Visitors can enjoy the Halloween Hikes event between Oct. 27 and Oct. 29 from 6-10 p.m. This will not be a "fright fest," but will be an educational experience for the entire family while in costume. This year, the nighttime nature hike will take place on their paved Wildlife Walk and an ADA-compliant River Boardwalk Trail. Another change that the nature center made this year, is that they are starting hiking sessions every 6 minutes, to make it easier for more families to attend. Aside from hiking, guests can enjoy a firepit area with concessions, games, music, food, crafts, and more. (Newsbreak)

• Aurora Cineplex: The Aurora Cineplex in Roswell is celebrating its 13th birthday this month. The entertainment center will be holding their Birthday Bash on Sunday, Sept. 17 from noon until 4 p.m. Aside from deals on movies, there will be face painting, carnival games, birthday cake, and more. • Roswell Bicycles: Roswell's very own, Roswell Bicycles, was nominated as one of Atlanta’s Best retailers. They need votes in order to take the top spot in the Fitness and Outdoors category. Voting will take place on the Atlanta's Best website between Sept. 4 and Sept. 8. (Roswell Bicycles via X)
• City of Roswell, Georgia Government: The month of has been declared Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by Mayor Kurt Wilson. The founders of the Mighty Millie Foundation met Mayor Kurt Wilson at the Heart of Roswell Park to initiate this month for childhood cancer awareness. • The City of Roswell, Georgia Cultural Arts: Hispanic Heritage Month begins on Sept. 15, and the Roswell Cultural Arts Center will begin the celebration that day with a performance called "La Candela Flamenco." The exchange between Spanish and Latin American cultures will be explored and translated through the art of flamenco dance. Tickets can be purchased on the Roswell365 website.
