Citizens For Responsible Development Host Master Plan Meeting

Roswell's consultants on the Historic District Master Plan, TSW Design, provided an update to the process to develop the guide.

ROSWELL, GA — A group of citizens that advocates for a pragmatic approach to growth hosted a meeting earlier this month to allow residents to get a glimpse at the draft Roswell Historic Master Plan.

The gathering organized by Citizens of Responsible Development in Roswell was held Jan. 16, and allowed the city's consultants, TSW Design, to deliver a status update on the plan. Attendees were allowed to ask questions about the plan and provide input on what they'd like to see spelled out in the document.

"It is clear people are really interested in our historic district, and tuned into what makes it a valuable and vulnerable asset for our city," said Sally McKenzie, a spokesperson for CRDR. "Compatibility of setbacks, height, and mass are so important to preserve character. If we don’t pay attention and make good decisions, we will lose much of what makes Roswell uniquely enjoyable and inviting. And we can’t get it back."

The Historic District Master Plan is a preservation-focused initiative for the area along Ga. 9 from just north of the Chattahoochee River to Woodstock Street. It also encompasses Canton Street, a portion of Alpharetta and Norcross streets, Bulloch Avenue, Magnolia Street, Mimosa Boulevard and the streets surrounding the Roswell Mill area.

The master plan "will establish a detailed vision for the district as a sustainable and thriving downtown that protects historic character and resources," Roswell said. It will also recommend possible changes to standards and regulations to support the vision outlined in the document.

The Historic District Master Plan Advisory Committee will hold another meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6 in Room 220 at Roswell City Hall at 38 Hill Street.

More information about this project is available on the city's website.
