- The Roswell City Council and Mayor Kurt Wilson held a meeting this past Monday at City Hall. A third-generation veteran on the U.S. Navy, Ed Klaas was named as the city's newest Esteemed Veteran at the meeting. He worked as an Electronic Warfare Technician while enlisted and was Honorably Discharged in 1987. The council also discussed and approved a Tree Bank Fund Administration for a total of $568,000. An ordinance to adopt a millage rate of 4.949 for the 2024 fiscal year was also approved by the city council. The bond referendum that was passed in the November 2022 election is responsible for the increase in the debt service. (Roswell Gov)
- Fulton County Schools uses the Teaching Museum and Archives to teach the history of local schools and their communities from the 1800s to the present day. The county has two museums that offer 80 programs and other materials that help students learn in a hand-on manner. “The public may not be fully aware of the fact that we have two teaching museums and an archive, all directed by our very own very capable, very knowledgeable museum curator,” said Fulton Schools Superintendent Mike Looney. Roswell is home to the Teaching Museum North; it is located at the former site of Roswell Elementary School. “Common Threads: The Everywhere and Every Day of Textiles” is a new exhibit that is currently on display at the Teaching Museum North. Changes to safety and security measures that will go into effect in the 2024-2025 school year, were discussed with parents in the North Fulton area. Fulton County Schools Police Chief Mark Sulborski discussed new weapon detection that will replace the "traditional type" of metal detector. There will also be changes to the district's calendar and breaks next year. School board member Katha Stuart will hold another meeting at Roswell High School on Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. (Appen Media)
