  1. A local man has reported an extortion for money attempt from someone he met on Facebook. The victim told police that he connected with an individual on the social media site on April 14; he also told police that the person was using an alias to send him edited pictures. The photos showed the man in explicit situations with children. The alleged extortionist then demanded $3,000 from the man and threatened to post on multiple sites. They then tried to lower the price to $300, because the victim refused to comply with their demands. Police advised the victim to stop all communications with the user. The case is still under investigation with the Roswell Police Department. (Appen Media)
  2. A senior and soccer player from Blessed Trinity High School, Riley Jackson, has decided to go pro and will join the North Carolina Courage of the National Women’s Soccer League. Jackson was the 2022 National Gatorade High School Girls Soccer Player of the Year and was the co-captain for the USA team at the U-17 World Cup in 2022. She is forgoing her 12th grade season at Blessed Trinity as well as her college years; she had initially signed with Duke University. “It’s not just a soccer decision, it’s a life decision,’' she said. Jackson will be introduced to North Carolina Courage fans during halftime at the team's game today. (Newsbreak)
  3. The city's CORE community engagement program has returned after a 3-year absence. The nine-week session will begin in August and will allow participants to gain knowledge and insight into the city's innerworkings, goals, and operations. Classes will be held on Wednesdays and will run from Aug. 16 to Oct. 28. “We hope the program’s personal interaction among participants and staff helps inspire meaningful relationships, engagement and collaboration within our community,” said Mayor Kurt Wilson. This course is for city residents and for businesses that are registered in Roswell. (Appen Media)
