Here are the top stories in Roswell today:

  1. In 2013, the city began replacing grass rectangular sports fields with artificial turf. That year, two fields were replaced at Roswell Area Park. Two fields were also replaced at Groveway Community Park. Ten years later, in the spring of 2023, two artificial turf fields at East Roswell Park were changed out by the City of Roswell. The older fields at Roswell Area Park now need new carpet, infill, updated fencing, netting, and goalposts. The fields at Groveway Community Park need updated concrete work in order to become ADA compliant. A $2,810,620 contract with Fieldturd USA was recently approved by City Council to have the company complete the updates and replacements. (Paywall: AJC)
  2. The city government posted an advisement to some and a reminder to others regarding the Roswell Recycling Center. The center collects fluorescent bulbs that are tubular or u-shaped for recycling. Floourescent bulbs have toxic mercury in them; these bulbs are classified as a hazardous waste. Therefore, the city wants to make sure that they are disposed of properly. A maximum of 5 tubular and/or u-shaped fluorescent bulbs of a certain length per residency will be accepted each day. Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), LED light bulbs, and other light bulbs should likewise not be thrown in household trash. The Recycling Center will not take them, however, those types of bulbs can be recycled at the Home Depot on Woodstock Road of the location on Holcomb Bridge Road. (Roswell Gov)
  3. Over 150 classic cars will be on display at next month's Roswell Motoring Festival. Automobile collectors from across the south will show their special vehicles. This will be the festival's fourth year in the city; it will take place at Roswell City Hall on Oct. 7. The 1966 Ferrari P4 that was in the movie "Ford vs. Ferrari" will be featured at the event. Admission to the festival is free, however, donations will be collected that will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Car owners have until Sept. 29, to register their vehicles to be entered into the car show. Roswell Mayor Pro Tem Christine Hall will be the Grand Marshal for the Roswell Motoring Festival.
