Here are the top stories today in Roswell:
- On May 31, Clemson University began extending offers to 2025 prospects for its offensive line. One of those prospects is ranked as one of the top offensive tackles in the country and is from right here in Roswell. Josh Petty is a rising junior and a member of the football team at Fellowship Christian School. According to 247Sports Composite, the high school football player is the number 2 offensive tackle and number 12 overall prospect in the U.S. for his class. The Tigers' head coach, Dabo Swinney, extended the offer to Petty while he was visiting the school earlier this month. “Knowing that a top program like that is interested in me and wants me to play at their school is really amazing,” Petty stated. He is also considering offers from other schools such as Florida State, Georgia, Penn State, and LSU. (Clemson Insider)
- Two towns in North Fulton have been named as one of the top 100 cities to live in the country. This distinguished notoriety has been given to the cities of Roswell and John's Creek. Livability, a site that ranks living conditions in cities across the U.S., only reviewed cities that has a population between 75,00 and 500,000. Therefore, the City of Atlanta was not considered. Elements such as housing, amenities, transportation features, health, environmental conditions, cost of living, the city's economy, safety, and education were factored to create the ranking. John's Creek received a score of 877 out of 1000, which brought the city to number 1 on the list. Roswell ranked 11 on the list and received a score of 832 out of 1000. (MSN)
- A Fulton County jury has deemed the nearby city of Milton responsible for the 2016 car crash that resulted in the death of a Cherokee County man. Joshua Chang, who was also a senior at Yale University, was driving on Batesville Road in November of that year. His vehicle struck a planter that was located on the city's property. There were no witnesses to the single-vehicle accident, however, a reconstruction expert believed that Chang swerved to avoid hitting something in the road. “There was no evidence of speeding or driving recklessly and there’s no evidence that he was using his cell phone,” the family's attorney said. He then hit a planter that was made out of a large tire that was encased with stone, concrete, and filled with dirt. The jury decided that the City of Milton was 93 percent at fault, and the driver was 7 percent responsible for the fatal crash. His family was awarded $32.5 million plus court costs.
