  1. The Roswell Police Department is partnered with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) to makes sure the department maintains compliance with their standards. The police department is frequently evaluated to make sure they uphold the required standards, involve themselves in community service, provide public safety services, and candidacy in order to maintain an accredited status. The department is opening up a public comment period to receive the community's feedback on how the police department maintains these standards in relation to the Emergency Communications Division (E-911). Residents can offer their opinions on the CALEA - Accreditation Public Comment Portal. A copy of these set of standards can be reviewed at the Roswell Police Department. (The City of Roswell)
  2. The April 2023 hit-and-run in Roswell that seriously injured two elderly women has prompted neighbors in the Willow Springs community to take measures to make the area safer. Traffic is increasing and they want more sidewalks in their neighborhood. The president of the Willow Springs HOA, Bob Evers, said that the HOA has created a design and proposal for a sidewalk to the built. In their plans, the sidewalk will be placed on the inside of the 3.5-mile loop that runs through the neighborhood. He also stated that the HOA has petitioned the city for a sidewalk for many years. Mayor Kurt Wilson stated that this issue is the responsibility of the neighborhood and HOA, and that "the city is not in the business of putting sidewalks in private neighborhoods throughout the city.” However, he did say the City of Roswell will support and assist the community any way they can. 3. The city's Canton Street task force met for the first time on Wednesday, July 26, and discussed the possible pros and cons of a Canton Street closure to vehicular traffic for a trial period. "The goal is to provide the most factual evidence and figure out what's the best route for everyone," said task force member Dujuante Miller. The group of four business owners and three residents also want to quell the spread of misinformation surrounding the proposal. The task for still has more time to deliberate before they present their suggestions to Mayor Kurt Wilson and the council. (Fox 5)
