Here are the top stories in Roswell today:

  1. The new Canton Street Promenade Task Force has been officially created and membership to that group is currently being decided. Roswell City Administrator Randy Knighton said that he, along with city staff, and senior leadership members, will "develop the framework and criteria" for those who are to be appointed to the task force. They will also work to develop a plan that would outline the responsibilities of the task force. Their recommendations on who should be included on the force will be given to city council members next week. He expects that appointments could possibly be made as early as June 12 or June 13. (Atlanta News First)
  2. A U-Haul van that was rented on April 13 and wasn't returned to the rental location was recovered by the Roswell Police Department on May 2. Employees from a U-Haul rental center on Alpharetta Street gave police the “demand” letter that was mailed to the customer but was not successfully delivered. A reason for the failed delivery attempt is unknown. Police were able to track down the customer and the outstanding $35,000 van from information provided on the rental agreement. The customer was arrested due to outstanding warrants in Conyers, and the van was successfully retrieved. (Appen Media)
  3. Many people came out to East Roswell Park last Friday to commemorate the opening of the new turf fields at the park. The fields were formally presented and opened for public use. The first field was funded via the East Roswell Park Improvements for Fiscal Year 2023 and cost $527,900. The second field was re-turfed for a total of $591,170 and was funded through the city's Bond Program. The new turf is designed have cooler surface temperatures and feature the city logo at their midfields. This was the first of many Bond-funded projects that will be implemented within the next few months. (The Georgia Sun)
  4. The first round of general obligation bonds was sold by the City of Roswell. The $86.2 million transaction occurred on May 22. The bonds were divided into taxable and tax-exempt portions. This sale will cover the first issuance of bonds, which will be a some of the parks and recreation bonds, the public safety bonds, and all of the parking garage bond. According to Mayor Kurt Wilson, the City of Roswell is overjoyed to receive welcoming responses from the market, and to have multiple bidders on each “series” of bond sales. (Appen Media)
