Here are the top stories in Roswell today:

  1. $434,000 of the funds from the Community Development Block Grant will be used to demolish and redevelop Groveway Apartments. The City Council voted on this proposal at the council meeting on July 10. Funds that were previously awarded to the city and had yet to be spent, will also be used for this construction project. “We’re setting a precedent of being the first administration to really invest any time, much less any energy, into rescuing an old dog— 199 Groveway,” Roswell City Councilwoman Lee Hills said. Eighty percent of the money will be used for the demolition alone; the additional 20 percent of the funds will be spent on administration and planning. (Appen Media)
  2. Critics of the newly appointed city task force are speaking up and making their concerns known. Those with concerns fear that the panel that was chosen may not be "open to all viewpoints." Jenna Aronowitz, the owner of 1920 Tavern, applied for the task force, but she was not chosen. Aronowitz said, “It’s possible this entire task force will be a sham.” The owner of Canton Street's Table & Main is hopeful that the task force is genuine, honest, and will take all opinions regarding the Canton Street closure. The task force's first report is due in 45 days. (Newsbreak)
  3. North Fulton's American Legion Post 201 in Alpharetta has awarded $1,500 in scholarships to four recent high school graduates. The scholarships recipients were announced at the organization's meeting on Tuesday, June 20. Jack Parsons, a 2023 graduate of Blessed Trinity High School in Roswell, was one of the Legion's scholarship winners. He will attend Auburn University in the fall. (Appen Media)
