Here are the top stories in Roswell today:
- The Atlanta Humane Society on Mansell Road will close on June 19. The property will be sold and a new facility for the Atlanta Humane Society will be built in North Fulton. The new building will be smaller, however, the President and CEO of the Atlanta Humane Society, Cal Morgan, said the new facility will "be better suited to address the needs of pets and their owners." The current location will be sold above the market price. According to Morgan, the Humane Society will weigh the opinions from residents of North Fulton on how they can better service the pet owners of North Fulton County with their new facility. (WSB-TV)
- The Drake House in Roswell is hosting a grand fundraising event on Tuesday, June 13. Their 11th Annual Rockin’ the Runway Fashion Show Fundraiser will take place at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center. They have already begun the fundraising with a virtual auction that will remain open until the end of the fashion show next week. This event is presented by Nalley Automotive Group, who will be showcasing four of their vehicles at the show. A link to purchase tickets and to view the items in the virtual auction are posted on The Drake House's Facebook page. (Facebook)
- The Butterfly Encounter has officially begun at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell. This is the 10th year that the nature center has brought the experience to the community. This year's encounter is sponsored by Fulton County and Northside Hospital. The magic of butterflies that are native to the region, and other pollinators, will be on full display for visitors. Here you can feed the butterflies with a nectar stick and learn more about these interesting and needed insects. This attraction is open everyday of the week, and is included with a general admission ticket. Visitors can also purchase host and native plants to attract native butterflies to their home gardens.
