- At a June 21 specially called meeting, the Roswell City Council came to an agreement on the details regarding the duties of the temporary Canton Street Promenade Task Force, and how it will be structured. The city's task force will be comprised of seven members and will provide formal counsel and suggestions on the proposal to develop the promenade on Canton Street. The task force will give directive to Mayor Kurt Wilson and the City Council, but it will not have the power to set policies. John Michael Brunetti, a restaurant owner representing the business owners' task force, did present a plan to the mayor. However, Jenna Aronowitz, a fellow representative from business owners task force stated that she felt "the mayor didn't listen to her and Brunetti’s suggestions." The City of Roswell is still accepting applications for eligible residents to join the task force until July 2. (Appen Media)
- During the month of July, the City of Roswell Municipal Court is granting a period of warrant amnesty. During this time qualifying individuals can come to the court in-person to reconcile outstanding fines and clear warrants without being physically arrested. This amnesty period applies to those whose citations such as traffic violations, city ordinance violations, and select state charges were received within the City of Roswell. They must also have failed to appear in court and/or pay required fines, thus resulting in a warrant for arrest being issued. Some charges will still require a mandatory court date. Prior approval of eligibility for this program is required; individuals must contact Roswell Court Services before coming to the courthouse. (Facebook)
- The first reading of a new city ordinance regarding violations for rowdy house parties was read on Monday, June 26, at a City Council meeting. During the meeting, Councilman Mike Palermo said that "residents frequently complain about loud house parties taking place in their neighborhoods." This proposed law is aimed at those who host gatherings that are loud and unruly at any property within a residential neighborhood. It also applies to uncontrollable parties within 500 feet of a home, and to properties that border a neighborhood. Per city attorney, David Davison, a violation of the ordinance can be met with 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $2,000. The council plans to vote on the approval of the new law at the next council meeting on July 10. (Newsbreak)
- An elderly Roswell couple said they were living without air conditioning in their unit at the Grace Apartment Homes. The 73- and 84- year old couple told 11Alive News that they are both disabled and cannot drive; they had been without A/C for more than a month. After finally disclosing their condition to their daughter, she soon contacted reporters at 11Alive News. They told reporters that they called maintenance regarding the broken A/C and other issues several times but were told they were "short staffed." A few hours after 11Alive spoke to representatives for the apartment complex, the air conditioning in the couple's unit began working again. (11Alive)
