Light The World Giving Machines Return to Atlanta
North Georgia residents can share Christmas joy this year locally and throughout the world.
ATLANTA, Georgia — For the second year in a row, Atlanta will be home to the world-famous Light The World Giving Machines this holiday season.
Beginning Nov. 24 at The Interlock in midtown Atlanta, these bright red, giving-focused vending machines will offer the public a unique and memorable way to extend love to others.
Giving Machines are customized vending machines filled with goods and services to assist the most vulnerable among us. “Instead of buying snack food, people can select from a variety of much-needed items for local and global charities,” said Elder M. Andrew Galt, regional Church leader for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Georgia. “From a goat for a needy family in Africa to new shoes for children right here in Atlanta, there are dozens of items to choose from.”
This year, the Atlanta Giving Machines will support three nonprofits in the metro area:
- Atlanta Children’s Shelter in midtown Atlanta works to break the cycle of poverty for families and their children by providing quality educational support and pathways to self-sufficiency.
- City of Refuge on the Westside resides in Atlanta’s most dangerous zip code and helps families transition out of crisis and gain the skills they need to thrive.
- The Drake House in Roswell empowers women and their children experiencing homelessness to achieve economic independence and long-term stability.
Some items featured in this year’s Giving Machine include a round-trip MARTA pass, hygiene supplies, diapers and wipes, and children’s toys, with prices ranging from $5 to $240.
The first Giving Machine appeared in 2017 in just one city. Last year, machines were in 28 cities across six countries, with an estimated 425,000 individuals donating more than $6 million. Today, Giving Machines will be in more than 50 cities worldwide. Total donations have exceeded $22 million, with 100% used to fulfill each donor’s selection — all possible because the initiative’s sponsor, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, covers all operational costs.
Visit the Atlanta Light The World Giving Machines from Friday, Nov. 24, through Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, at The Interlock, 1115 Howell Mill Rd, Atlanta, GA. Enjoy the family-friendly events and atmosphere as you share a little of yourself with someone in need this holiday season.
