  1. Downtown Roswell will be the place that the first full-service location of popular Cuban sandwich shop, Cubanos ATL, is located. The eatery is known for their Cuban sandwiches, but they hope that their expanded menu of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, will be well received by the Roswell community. The owner of Cubanos ATL, Ozzy Llanes, is a native of Cuba; he moved from Miami to Atlanta over 10 years ago. He opened his first location of Cubanos ATL in metro Atlanta during the pandemic. The new Roswell location is set to open in downtown on Sept. 20. (Eater Atlanta)
  2. The increase to the property tax rate was approved by the city council at the meeting on Sept. 18. The "higher debt service on voter-approved bonds" that were issued by the city for major municipal projects caused the need to raise the millage rate. The rate will be increased from 4.463 to 4.949 mills. "The tax rate increase was buffered by a rise in property values," per Roswell Councilwoman Christine Hall. Georgia state law requires a second hearing to be conducted. That hearing is scheduled for Sept. 25. (Appen Media)
  3. Roswell's Blessed Trinity High Catholic School has been acknowledged by the United States Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School. Schools throughout the nation are recognized for its academic performance or their development in closing achievement gaps. Blessed Trinity was nominated for Blue Ribbon status by the Council for American Private Education; this group nominates Catholic and other private schools to the Department of Education for consideration. “The honorees for our 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award have set a national example for what it means to raise the bar in education,” U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona said. Over 300 schools from around the U.S. received this prestigious status this year. (Newsbreak)
  4. Roswell police have arrested Derrick Washington, the 23-year-old suspect in the shooting that occurred on Sept. 1 outside a residence on Barrington Drive. Police were called to the scene after receiving multiple calls regarding gunshots in the area. Responding officers located a man who had been shot in the arm. Washington was later located by authorities and taken into custody. He has been charged with aggravated assault and is in custody under a $25,000 bond at the Fulton County Jail. (Appen Media)
