Here are the top stories in Roswell today:

  1. A joint investigation between the Roswell Police Department and the Defiance Police Department in Ohio has led to the arrest of a 40-year-old Ohio orchestra teacher. The two departments were investigating a child exploitation case in which a high school teacher was involved. The case has been ongoing for multiple years and involved conversations between the Ohio man and an individual he thought was a teenage girl under the age of 16. The music teacher was arrested in Ohio on Friday, May 12 and was extradited to the Fulton County Jail. He has been charged with use of computer services to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice a child to commit illegal acts, electronically furnishing obscene material to minors, child molestation, as well as two counts of sodomy. The man's connection to Roswell and/or Fulton County Schools was not disclosed. (WSB Atlanta)
  2. Rick McDermott, the owner of Aqua Blue Pools in Roswell, is in hot water with five families in Acworth. These residents are saying that they have had contracts with Aqua Blue Pools, some since 2021, to build pools on their properties. They are all in agreement that the work and process started out well, however, once a substantial amount of money is paid, the work then slows, and their projects are not completed. The families are frustrated after learning about each other's similar experiences with Aqua Blue Pools. They all noticed "a shift after their pool contractor gets toward the last big payment," and one resident, Michele Kowanski, said, "He pretty much ghosted us." Complaints have been filed with Roswell PD investigators and the Paulding County Sheriffs Office. All families will have to cut their losses and hire new companies to finish the work. (fox5atlanta)
  3. North Fulton Community Charities hosted the 15th annual Swing Into Action Golf Tournament at Country Club of the South on April 24. The charity's Director of Development Sherri Morgan said that "this tournament plays an important role in helping prevent homelessness and food insecurity in our community.” This fundraising tournament was sponsored by Toyota Financial Services, Synchrony, Roswell Presbyterian Church, Northside Hospital, and many other groups in the community; 96 golfers participated in the competition. A total of $55,000 was raised and will benefit families in need. (appenmedia)
  4. In honor of those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, the Milton Police Department will hold several community events this week. They want to raise awareness and encourage people to remember these ultimate sacrifices. To kick off this week's events, police officers from Roswell, Milton, Johns Creek, and Alpharetta came together with residents at Roswell Area Park to remember the police officers in Georgia who died in the line of duty in 2022. This special ceremony took place on Monday, May 15, which is Peace Officers Memorial Day; this is the start of National Police Week. During this week of May, the Milton PD will be holding many events that "honor, remember, and support law enforcement officers." (atlantanewsfirst)
