Here are the top stories in Roswell today:
- Roswell Councilmember Mike Palermo has announced that he will not run for re-election once his term is up in December. The councilmember made his formal announcement on July 18, but stated that he may run again for a council seat or possibly for the mayor in the future. Palermo has served 2 terms on the council and is the longest serving member on the council. Although they have not made an official declaration, councilmembers Christine Hall and Sarah Beeson have plans to seek re-election. Those who are considering running for a seat on the Roswell City Council, will have to qualify between Aug. 21-25 at the Roswell City Hall. (Newsbreak)
- Restaurateurs Dallas Bond and Jason Chaifetz, who own the Standard at Roswell, will open another location up the road in Alpharetta. The Standard at Alpharetta will take over the space that was formally Carson's Kitchen in Alpharetta's City Center. The owners say that the menu for the new location will be similar to the Roswell restaurant but will have more items to the larger kitchen at the new site. Bond and Chaifetz have hopes that their new location will yield the same success and fortune as the Standard at Roswell. (What Now Atlanta)
- The Roswell City Task Force will hold their first meeting on Wednesday, July 26 at City Hall. This meeting will also be open to the public. The task force will now have to act in haste, because Mayor Kurt Wilson and City Council shortened the deadline for the team to present their findings from 45 days to 31 days. “We hope the city will reset the clock to give this task force more time to thoroughly study all of the impacts a closure would have,” said the owner of Mojo Vinyl Records. Councilman Mike Palermo is in agreement with the group being allotted more time to come up with a comprehensive plan for the promenade proposal for Canton Street. (Newsbreak)
