- A $530,000 contract with Prime Contractors was recently approved by the City Council. Prime Contractors will begin making renovations to Historic Town Square in the near future.
The group will repair and replace the square's granite cobblestone, brick pavers, and fountain. They will also work on water service for irrigation, landscaping, and grading. It will take about 90 days to finish the work. (Paywall: AJC) - Maj. Gen. John F. King, Georgia’s Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, was declared the most recent Esteemed Veteran of Roswell. He was acknowledged for his extensive service to the country, the city, and the state of Georgia at Monday's Mayor and Council meeting. King began his service with the United States Army National Guard in 1982. During his career with the U.S. military, he was deployed in Afghanistan and served in operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2018, King was promoted to major general and was assigned to U.S. Army North. Gov. Brian Kemp swore King in as Georgia’s Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner in July of 2019. He holds the title as the first Hispanic statewide official in Georgia’s history. (Facebook)
- The Roswell Cultural Arts Center has announced its fall 2023 lineup and calendar of events. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Cultural Arts Center will be bringing the city the "La Candela Flamenco" performance on Sept. 15. In this show, performers will incorporate music and dance to interpret flamenco according to their unique story. The Family Center Stage will return in September with the educational Diggery Dinosaur Show with Paleontologist Diggery. The Atlanta Vocal Project will also grace the stage with the Georgia Tech Glee Club and the FRED Quartet at the Cultural Arts Center on Saturday Sept. 30. There will be many more events and concert series throughout the months of September and October.
