Here are the top stories in Roswell today:

  1. On Wednesday, officials from Fulton County announced that they are actively working to eradicate the discharge of partially treated wastewater that have infiltrated the Chattahoochee River. At a news conference at the Big Creek Wastewater Plant on Thursday, representatives from the county explained that they have to use a biological method to treat the E. coli bacteria in the waterway. An investigation of the treatment plant found that the "root cause was identified as an imbalance in the biological processes employed to treat wastewater." There were deficient levels of beneficial organisms that are needed to treat wastewater. On July 3, loads of good microorganisms were released into the river. The county will also use UV treatment processes to combat the bacteria in the Chattahoochee. (11Alive)
  2. The Roswell Fire Department initiated a campaign to bring awareness to the dangers of leaving children, the elderly, and pets in hot cars. Its Safe Kids North Fulton campaign setup a public demonstration at Roswell Area Park on Tuesday before the fireworks show. The fire department used a car that was placed under direct sunlight to show how quickly and how high temperatures rise inside vehicles. Within 10 minutes, the internal temperature rose to 133 degrees; the car's interior temperature climbed to 158 degrees within an hour. The department's aim is to make the public aware of the potentially fatal consequences of leaving children, pets, and the elderly inside parked cars. (Newsbreak)
  3. The Atlanta Street Art Collective is a studio space off of Atlanta Street where artist gather to work and collaborate. A group of local artists came together four years ago to develop the Atlanta Street Art Collective. These artists are sharing their creations with the city via their exhibit, “Our Voices.” The personality and flair of each individual artist will be featured in this collective body of work. The exhibit will be on display in the lobby of the Roswell Cultural Arts Center through July 28. (Appen Media)
