Local church leaders are taking aim at the escalation of depression, anxiety, and bullying affecting kids and teens, with many of the victims suffering in silence. Organizers of the yearly Roswell Day of Hope have partnered with businesses and non-profits to offer information such as where to find assistance and what signs might indicate that a loved one needs help.
In addition, the sixteenth annual event will include free haircuts, free medical and dental exams, and children’s games among other highlights. Many families are especially grateful for the free shoes that will be given out until supplies run out, freeing funds in the family budget for other kinds of necessities, organizers say.
The event is slated, rain or shine, for Saturday, Sept. 27, from noon to 4 p.m. at Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill Street, with no admission charge.

Youth mental health has become a focus at the event as the number of kids suffering has risen to alarming levels since the COVID-19 lockdowns. One large contributor, experts say, is social-media harassment.
Eagerly anticipated by many local families, the Day of Hope is an event with something for everyone to enjoy, from samplings of local coffee to live music to the chance to go home with gift cards. Guests can also purchase exciting food-truck offerings in the festival-like setting. The Kid Zone, with a variety of games, is always a popular part of the event, which draws more than a thousand attendees every year.
